When you need to convert QBO to QFX

  • Your bank only offers a QuickBooks download, but you use Quicken.
  • You're moving your records from QuickBooks to Quicken.

How to convert QBO to QFX

  1. Drop your .qbo file on the converter (up to 5 MB).
  2. Check that "Convert to" says QFX.
  3. Click Convert: the QFX file downloads straight away. Nothing is stored.
  4. Open or import it: Quicken for Windows — File → File Import → Web Connect (.QFX) File, then link the download to an existing account or create one.

What happens to your data

  • The QuickBooks INTU.BID is replaced with a Quicken one and the file gets the .qfx extension.
  • Dates, amounts, payees, memos, check numbers and the original FITIDs are kept, so Quicken can still spot duplicates.
  • Credit card files stay credit card files (CCSTMTRS), so they land in the right type of Quicken account.

Importing the QFX file

Quicken for Windows
File → File Import → Web Connect (.QFX) File, then link the download to an existing account or create one.
Quicken for Mac
File → Import → Bank or Brokerage File, then choose the account.

What is a QBO file?

A .qbo file is a QuickBooks Web Connect file: an OFX bank file with two extra Intuit tags (INTU.BID and INTU.USERID) that QuickBooks checks before it imports. It holds one account's transactions with a posted date, signed amount, payee, memo and a unique transaction ID (FITID) per line, plus the ending balance.

What is a QFX file?

A .qfx file is Quicken's version of OFX. The content is OFX with an INTU.BID tag that identifies the bank to Quicken. Quicken imports .qfx through Web Connect and uses each transaction's FITID to skip lines it already has.

QBO to QFX: questions

Will Quicken accept the converted file?

Quicken checks the bank identifier in Web Connect files against its own list. Most imports work; if Quicken says the institution isn't supported for Web Connect, convert to QIF instead and import that.

Are transaction IDs preserved?

Yes. The FITIDs from your bank's file are copied unchanged, which is what lets Quicken skip lines it has already downloaded.

Is the QBO to QFX converter free?

Yes. Format-to-format conversions are free and need no account. Files are converted in memory and never stored. Converting PDF bank statements is a separate tool with a free daily allowance.
