How to convert QBO to Excel

  1. Drop your .qbo file on the converter (up to 5 MB).

What happens to your data

  • Transactions sheet: Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, then Memo, Check number, Type and Transaction ID when present, with a totals row.
  • File info sheet: source file, account number, account type, currency, period, number of transactions, money in, money out and the ledger balance from the file.
  • Dates are true Excel dates (not text), amounts are numbers with two decimals, so formulas work immediately.

What is a QBO file?

A .qbo file is a QuickBooks Web Connect file: an OFX bank file with two extra Intuit tags (INTU.BID and INTU.USERID) that QuickBooks checks before it imports. It holds one account's transactions with a posted date, signed amount, payee, memo and a unique transaction ID (FITID) per line, plus the ending balance.

What is an Excel export?

An Excel workbook with typed columns: real date cells, numbers with two decimals, separate Debit and Credit columns and a totals row, so SUM, filters and pivot tables work straight away.

QBO to Excel: questions

Is this a QBO file viewer?

Yes, in practice: the Excel output shows everything the .qbo contains in a readable layout, with no QuickBooks needed.

Can I convert the Excel file back to QBO after editing?

Save the sheet as CSV and use the CSV to QBO converter. Keep the Transaction ID column if you want QuickBooks to recognise lines it already has.

Does it handle credit card .qbo files?

Yes. Credit card statements (CCSTMTRS) convert the same way; charges are negative and payments positive.

Is the QBO to Excel converter free?

Yes. Format-to-format conversions are free and need no account. Files are converted in memory and never stored. Converting PDF bank statements is a separate tool with a free daily allowance.
