How to download your first direct bank statement

first direct lets you download statements as PDF in online banking and in the app. Below: the exact steps, how far back you can go, and how to turn a PDF statement into Excel, CSV or QuickBooks.

Download a PDF statement in online banking

  1. Log on to Online Banking.
  2. On the balances screen, select the account you need a statement for.
  3. Select 'Statements' at the top right of the 'Transactions' screen.
  4. Select the statement you want; it downloads as a PDF in your browser.

Download a statement in the first direct app

  1. Open the app and go to the Balances screen.
  2. Tap the three dots (more options) on the account.
  3. Select 'Statements'.
  4. Pick one of the 3 most recent statements, or choose an earlier year.
  5. With the statement on screen, tap the download icon to print, send or save it.

Export transactions as CSV

first direct's help pages describe PDF statements but don't list a CSV export for personal accounts. If all you have is the PDF, convert it to CSV or Excel with Rowvert.

How far back can you go?

first direct says up to 6 years of statements can be viewed and downloaded as PDFs in the App and Online Banking.

Good to know

  • To see older transactions and charges, first direct points you to the statement PDFs (up to 6 years) rather than a transaction list.
  • PDF statements are offered for most, not all, accounts and only once a statement has been issued.
  • Paper or paperless delivery is changed in Online Banking under 'my details' then 'Statement Preferences'.

Convert your first direct statement to Excel

Statement PDFs can't be sorted, summed or imported. Drop one on Rowvert and get a spreadsheet with one row per transaction — date, description, debit, credit, balance — checked against the statement's own closing balance. Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo or CSV), Xero, OFX and QIF.

  1. Download the PDF statement using the steps above.
  2. Drop it on the converter — no template to choose, scanned PDFs work too.
  3. Download Excel, CSV, or a QuickBooks / Xero-ready file.

Can I download my first direct statement as a CSV?

first direct's help pages describe PDF statements; a CSV export isn't listed there for personal accounts. Converting the PDF statement gives you the same transactions as CSV or Excel.

How far back can I download first direct statements?

first direct says up to 6 years of statements can be viewed and downloaded as PDFs in the App and Online Banking.

How do I convert a first direct PDF statement to Excel?

Download the statement PDF, drop it on the Rowvert converter and download Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo or CSV), Xero, OFX or QIF. Each row is checked against the statement's running balance, and 1 page a day is free without an account.

Does Rowvert work with scanned first direct statements?

Yes. Scanned or photographed statements go through OCR automatically. Rows read from an image are marked so you can double-check them.

Is my first direct statement stored?

The PDF is processed in memory and never kept. Only the extracted spreadsheet is stored, for your plan's retention window, then deleted.

Which date format will the Excel file use?

first direct statements usually show dates as DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY; Rowvert converts them to real Excel dates so they sort and filter correctly.
